An 80-year-old woman is facing felony charges in connection with a crash that killed a mother and daughter in Kansas.

According to KWCH, Clowie McLaughlin, 80, was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence in connection with the crash that left mother LaShea Bell, 42, and her daughter A’Niah Bell, 25, dead.

The crash unfolded on the night of August 30 at the intersection of Central and Webb Road in Wichita. Wichita police said McLaughlin was driving eastbound in a Chevy pickup when she hit a white BMW and a gray Jeep, which were traveling southbound. LaShea and A’Niah Bell were in the BMW and died at the scene.

Police believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. McLaughlin was hospitalized with injuries and later booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. She has since been released on a $100,000 bond.

McLaughlin is scheduled to appear in court on Monday (September 15).

A joint celebration of life for LaShea and A’Niah is set for September 20 at First Evangelical Free Church on North Woodlawn. LaShea Bell was a board member at Heroes Academy, a local youth organization, and A’Niah had recently earned a master’s degree in biomedical science from Newman University.
