A Philadelphia truck driver said he woke up to find six men stealing thousands of pounds of frozen snow crab from his trailer and was forced to run when one of the suspects chased him.

The theft happened around 4:50 a.m. on October 20 in Southwest Philadelphia, PEOPLE reported.

Police said the thieves made off with two pallets of frozen snow crab, totaling 50 boxes weighing about 30 pounds each. The stolen shipment amounted to approximately 3,000 pounds of crab, according to NBC10 Philadelphia.

Marty Muriuki told the news outlet he woke up after feeling movement outside his truck.

“As I was dreaming, I felt the shaking and I [woke] up and I [thought] ‘Uh oh, I have some company,’” he said. “And, I look back and I saw four, five cars.”

Muriuki said he got out to confront the men as they loaded his cargo into a pickup truck. One of the suspects charged at him, forcing him to flee, according to NBC10.

“The other guys were taking the merchandise out. So, they were able to get the merchandise and then I told them, ‘Hey, stop! That’s enough! I don’t want to lose my job,’” Muriuki said.

He also recalled that one suspect offered to pay him before another man chased him away.

“One guy said, ‘We’ll pay you,’ and then all of a sudden one guy charging on me so I [had] to run from that corner all the way to the Resident Inn,” Muriuki said.

The suspects fled in multiple vehicles, including a gray Ford F-150 and a gray Dodge Caravan, NBC10 reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.
